Joni contracted some of Jazz fusion’s pioneers to back her on this album, Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Shorter and drummer Peter Erskine who were all members of the ground breaking fusion band Weather Report at this time.
This is a lushly orchestrated record full of wonderful textures, colors, and moods and “Paprika Plains” stands as one of Mitchell’s major artistic achievements. The song is symphonic, telling a story over multiple, interconnected parts.
