PETER GABRIEL Plays Live (2020 UK/EU 16-track doublealbum 2-LP, a Half-Speed Remaster edition cut at 33RPM andpressed on 180-gram audiophile black vinyl. ‘Plays Live’ wascompiled from live recordings made at four venues across theAmericanMidwest in late 1982. It is effectively a sign-off tothe first phase of Peter Gabriel the solo artist. As such, it’s acelebration of all that was achieved on that opening quartet ofself-titled long-players, while also standing as confirmationthat Peter was an engaged and engaging frontman. At thetime, all bar one of the tracks would be familiar to the Gabrielcompletist, the exception being the previously unreleased ‘IGo Swimming’. A studio vocal version of the song has stillnever been released. The touring band captured by therecordings consists of Peter, alongside Jerry Marrotta (drumsand percussion), Tony Levin (bass and stick), David Rhodes(guitar) and Larry Fast (synthesizer and piano), whilst theiconic cover image of Peter in ‘monkey mask’ make-up wastaken by long-time collaborator Armando Gallo.
